House Un-American Activities Committee begins hearings on Communist influence in the movie industry in Washington, D.C.

The committee cites the so-called “Hollywood Ten” for contempt of Congress on November, 24, 1947, and movie executives, meeting in New York, agree to blacklist the directors, producers, and writers a day later.
